The base requirement: 10 hours, 4 of them core

The South Carolina Real Estate Commission requires active associates and brokers to complete 10 hours of continuing education each two-year renewal cycle: a 4-hour mandatory Core course plus 6 hours of approved electives. The Core course is updated each cycle to cover current law and Commission rules.

Brokers-in-charge owe more

• Active associates and brokers: 4-hour Core course plus 6 elective hours, for 10 total.
• Brokers-in-charge: a 4-hour mandatory BIC course plus the 4-hour Core course plus 2 elective hours, for 10 total.
• Property managers and timeshare salespersons are exempt from CE.
• Up to 4 hours of excess elective courses can carry over to your next renewal period - so a heavy CE year is not wasted, if you can prove what you took.

When is your deadline?

South Carolina real estate licenses expire June 30 every two years, beginning with the year your license was first issued, and CE must be completed before that date. Providers report completions to CE Broker, South Carolina's official tracking system, but you remain responsible for finishing on time and keeping your own proof. Miss June 30 and the license lapses, with a window to reinstate before it is cancelled.
