Idaho Real Estate Commission (IREC)

Idaho's 14 hours every two years come with a year-by-year obligation tucked inside: you must take two different Idaho Commission Core courses, and the Core changes each year. Skip a year's Core and you cannot backfill it with a later version - it is simply gone. New licensees swap part of this for post-license coursework on their first renewal.

Here is the full picture for salespersons and brokers, with the Core course rotation and the first-renewal difference called out.

The base requirement: 14 hours every 2 years

The Idaho Real Estate Commission requires active licensees to complete 14 hours of continuing education each two-year renewal period: two different Idaho Commission Core courses plus 12 elective hours. The same structure applies to renewing salespersons and brokers, and to anyone activating a license after inactive status.

The Idaho Core course rotates yearly

  • You must take two different Idaho Commission Core courses per renewal period - the Commission develops a new Core each year, effective July 1, covering law changes, case law, and current hot topics.
  • Core courses can never be taken more than once for credit, so each year's Core is a distinct requirement.
  • Miss a year's Core and you cannot make it up with a later year's version - plan to take one Core course each year of your cycle.
  • The remaining 12 hours are electives of your choice; no excess CE carries over to the next term.

First renewal: post-license education

Salespersons renewing on active status for the first time take the two Idaho Core courses plus 12 hours of Post License Education in place of the 12 elective hours. That post-license block must include the 8-hour Post License Fundamentals course plus one approved 4-hour post-license elective (such as pricing and marketing, professionalism and closings, or an introduction to commercial real estate). It is the heavier first-renewal lift to plan around.

When is your deadline?

Idaho real estate licenses renew every two years on a birthday basis - your licensing period begins the first day of the month following your birth month - so your deadline is personal, not a statewide date. All 14 hours must be done before you renew. As a small bonus, up to 4 CE hours can be earned once per renewal period for attending an entire regularly scheduled Commission meeting. Keep your certificates - IREC can audit.

How CredTally keeps this on autopilot

  • Track the 14-hour total with a separate bucket for each year's Idaho Commission Core course and your 12 elective hours - or switch to the post-license view for a first renewal.
  • Store each certificate as you finish, filed with the credit it proves.
  • Reminders at 90, 60, 30, and 7 days before your birthday-based renewal date - and set a yearly nudge so each annual Core course gets taken.
  • One-click dated packet - summary plus every certificate - if IREC audits you or a broker asks.
  • Licensed in Idaho plus another state, or also an appraiser or MLO? Every license sits on its own card with its own deadline in one dashboard.
