IV drip rate calculator

Enter the volume, the time to infuse, and your tubing's drop factor to get the drip rate in drops per minute (gtt/min) and the pump rate in mL/hr.

Check the tubing package — macro sets are usually 10/15/20, micro is 60.

Enter the volume and time to see the rate.

How the drip rate is calculated

The manual drip rate is the volume (mL) multiplied by the tubing's drop factor (gtt/mL), divided by the infusion time in minutes:

gtt/min = (volume mL × drop factor) ÷ time in minutes

The pump rate is simpler — volume divided by time in hours (mL/hr). Drop factor comes from the tubing: macro sets are typically 10, 15, or 20 gtt/mL, and micro (pediatric) sets are 60 gtt/mL.
